Eligibility Criteria
DescriptionScholarships will be offered at the undergraduate and graduate level of education and will be offered annually to Bermudians and Permanent Resident Certificate holders (PRC holders as defined by the Bermuda Department of Immigration) for a specific period of tenure not exceeding four years and each will carry a financial award up to BDA $9,000 per annum. Additionally we will reimburse the cost of one round-trip economy class airfare (up to BD$1,000) each year between Bermuda and the airport nearest the chosen approved college or university.
Fessenden-Trott Scholars will be free to accept other awards, loans or funds from other sources provided that the total amount does not exceed the total cost of attendance at the chosen college or university; however, should the scholar be awarded money for scholastic achievement from the chosen college or university, this will not be subject to the above condition. The term “total cost of attendance” being defined as the total costs of tuition fees, registration fees, required books and equipment, and accommodation costs during term-time together with, in the case of Bermudian scholars who normally reside in Bermuda, the cost of airfares.
Fessenden-Trott Scholarships will be tenable at such accredited educational institutions as the Scholarship Committee may approve.
Other RequirementsACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTS
A. The candidate must provide a typed letter/essay stating his/her career intentions, special interests, participation in youth organisations, sports, clubs, charities and other relevant information he/she considers suitable for inclusion.
B. Copies of the candidate’s scholastic record or transcript must be submitted directly to the Scholarship Committee by the Registrar of the school or other educational institutions attended.
C. Copies of scholastic achievements, eg. G.C.S.E., B.S.S.C. certificate showing grades, AP’s etc. may be submitted by the applicant directly. (Not required for postgraduate scholarship applicants.)
ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS(FOR SHORT-LISTED CANDIDATES)
The Scholarship Committee will review all applications and will select a short-list of candidates who will be contacted, AND AT THAT POINT, be expected to provide the following additional documentation:
D. A statement that the candidate, if awarded a Fessenden-Trott Scholarship, will not accept other scholarships, loans, or awards from other sources which, together with the Fessenden-Trott Award, exceed the total cost of attendance at the chosen approved educational institution. This provision excludes any awards for scholastic achievement from the institution attended by the scholar, which he/she will be free to accept. The term “total cost of attendance” is defined in the GENERAL INFORMATION section.
E. A certificate of good health from a registered medical practitioner.
F. A copy of letter or statement of either provisional or final acceptance for admission by the intended college or university.
G. Two reference letters from individuals who can attest to the candidate's character and/or scholastic ability.
H. A certificate relative to the candidate’s conduct and moral character, signed by the Principal. (Not required by postgraduate applicants or students currently attending university overseas.)
I. A certificate or other document from the Ministry of Home Affairs acceptable to the Committee, demonstrating the candidate is Bermudian or a Permanent Resident Certificate holder as defined by the Bermuda Department of Immigration.
J. A letter showing willingness of parents or guardians to accept responsibility for costs arising beyond those covered by the Fessenden-Trott Scholarship during the period of tenure.
K. A recent full-face photograph of the candidate. |
